If you are looking for a community that is warm and supporting, then we invite you to grow in faith here each Sunday morning. God wants you to know the promise that you are loved and accepted by God just as you are. So come hear the good news of Jesus Christ at Christus Victor. God's Blessings!
This week Palm/Passion Sunday launches Holy Week, with both a celebration of Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem as we wave palms, followed by a dramatic “drop” into the passion narrative according to Luke, presented by our young people. We begin by praising Christ with shouts of “Hosanna!”, and we go on to shout “Crucify him!” aware of our own participation in both joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, life and death. Join us as we experience both truths in one service.
This year we have the great privilege of marking this night in a joint service with our brothers and sisters from Mother of the Savior. Our service will be in both English and Arabic. Father Halim (Christ Episcopal, Dearborn) will offer the homily in both Arabic and English. We will wash feet and strip the chancel, reminiscent of Jesus’ betrayal. Everyone will be invited to come forward and wash the chancel steps and finally remain in silence for meditation or retreat to the lounge for conversation and fellowship.
Good Friday Tenebrae at 7 pm marks the suffering and death of Jesus as seen through the eyes of John’s Gospel, as lights are gradually dimmed until we are in total darkness. The moving “Bidding Prayer” and an opportunity for reverencing the cross conclude the service.
